Gunmen invade anti-robbery squad in Abuja, free suspects

An armed gang on Monday morning invaded the headquarters of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force headquarters, Abuja.
The headquarters of SARS is at Abbatoir in Garki, Abuja.
Sources said the gunmen overwhelmed securitymen at the heavily guarded facility and freed some suspects.
There were unconfirmed reports that some of the freed suspects are Boko Haram members.
Two policemen were also killed in the attack, while two of the attackers were arrested.
Residents said they heard sustained gunfire that lasted some hours.
However, the police said the attackers were repelled.
Spokesman for the Nigeria Police Force, Mr. Frank Mba, confirmed the incident to PUNCH on the telephone.
“I can confirm that there was an attempted attack on the (special anti-robbery squad) this morning which was repelled,” police spokesman Frank Mba said, adding that the attackers were “suspected gunmen.”
The attack came less than 24 hours after twin suicide bomb attacks on St. Andrew’s Military Protestant Church inside the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna State.
